Capital Area Flex User Group Presentation

I will be the first to admit that I have not been the most consistent blogger. However, today is my latest attempt to redeem myself.

Yesterday, I attended the Flex User Group meeting in Rockville. Adam Lehman (@adrocknophobia), Product Manager for Flash Builder, gave a presentation on mobile development using FB 4.5. His presentation gave me the motivation to promote the preso that I gave in April (my first preso, mind you), entitled Advanced Flex Mobile Development Techniques,  to the same group.

I received pretty positive feedback from members of the audience and hopefully someone else will be able to learn from what I put forth.

You will find a link to the Adobe Connect archive here. Feel free to leave honest feedback, positive or negative.

SmartCheckBox Component

The idea for this component came about as I was creating an web app for a client. The challenge was to create a form that 1) maintained the look and feel of a paper application and 2) would restrict the user’s ability to select multiple checkboxes within certain groups (i.e ‘Yes/No’, ‘Male/Female’), thus eliminating the need for RadioButtons.

Another cool aspect of the component is that an array of values for each checkBox can be set directly within the MXML.

I’m not aware of anyone else who has created a similar component and this is fairly straightforward. I imagine that this will be useful to anyone who may encounter a situation similar to mine.

Allow me to introduce myself…..

So, I finally got around to starting a blog for my company. Troymedia, however, is not a company that can be easily categorized because it is a direct extension of me, the uncategorizable(?) one…

The main purpose of this blog wil be to document my journey from Point A to Point Z, an aggregation of my efforts, achievements and milestones.

Today, however, there will be no work to showcase (other than the fact that, today,  I became an official Apple Developer). Tonight is Steelers-Ravens…Sunday Night Football…CATCH ME AT THE BIG ATM!!!!!
